Desde seu lançamento em outubro de 2007, The Witcher, como a série Gothic, jamais obteve a chance de brilhar para além do rótulo dos RPGs de segunda categoria. Elder Scrolls era o que Witcher jamais seria, mais ainda assim o título não tinha nada de tímido: o jogo apresentava uma trama arrojada com requintes de contos de cavalaria, um mundo aberto belíssimo, quests laterais muito bem amarradas e um verdadeiro peso moral para suas decisões.
